How Time Zones Affect Date Calculations
Your date depends on where you are. At 10 p.m. in New York it is already the next day in Tokyo.
Calendar units use local time
Our calculators use your device's local date and time, so "today" means today where you are.
Daylight saving time
On the day clocks change, a day can have 23 or 25 hours. Counting hours across those dates can be off by one hour compared to counting days.
Tips
- Use calendar units (days, months, years) for dates and hours only for precise elapsed time.
- When coordinating internationally, state the time zone.
For precise hour and minute math, use the hours ago calculator.
