Use an anchor you know
Each year, a set of easy dates (4/4, 6/6, 8/8, 10/10, 12/12) share the same weekday. In 2026 they are all Saturdays. Count forward or back from the nearest one.
The formula approach
Zeller's congruence and the Doomsday method compute the weekday from the day, month and year. They work, but small slips are easy.
