Inclusive vs Exclusive Day Counts: Which One Do You Need?
From Monday to Friday is how many days? Four if you count the gaps, five if you count both days. Both answers are right for different purposes.
Exclusive counting
This is the standard for "days between" and "days ago". Today is day 0 and yesterday is 1 day ago. Our calculators use this convention.
Inclusive counting
Hotel stays, leave requests and event schedules often count every calendar day touched. Add 1 to an exclusive count to get the inclusive one.
Check the wording
Contracts and laws often define how days are counted, sometimes excluding weekends. When it matters, follow the official definition.
