How to Calculate Your Exact Age in Years, Months and Days
Your age in whole years is easy: it goes up on your birthday. Getting years, months and days takes a little more care.
The method
- Subtract the birth year from the current year.
- If your birthday hasn't happened yet this year, subtract one.
- Count the whole months since your last birthday.
- Count the remaining days since that month mark, borrowing from the previous month's length when needed.
An example
Born June 15, 1990, measured on October 9, 2026: 36 years (the June birthday has passed), 3 months (June 15 to September 15), and 24 days (September 15 to October 9).
Leap-day birthdays
Many legal systems treat February 28 or March 1 as the birthday in non-leap years. Check local rules for anything official.
Skip the arithmetic with the age calculator, which also shows days until your next birthday.
